The Market Folk: Get to know Nathalie Le Riche
Tell us a little bit about Nathalie Le Riche?
I became a full time artist at the age of twenty seven whilst living in a small town in Papua New Guinea. I am Australian and had followed my husband up to PNG where I lived for the past 28 years on and off. I am now back home in Australia focusing on my new art business. From the age of nineteen I used my life as a guinea pig testing to see if the law of attraction really worked. I wanted to see if someone who felt lost, with no money could live a dream life manifesting all that she desired. I discovered by using simple tools on a daily basis that the law of attraction really does work! As a result I kept challenging myself with bigger goals. However despite gaining fame, money and lots of materialistic things I found myself questioning, why aren’t I happy? Why am I feeling angry and frustrated most of the time, depleted of energy? Why do I feel I am not worthy? I discovered that life is a series of chapters and when you don’t align with the values for that chapter, you end up on a trend mill wanting more and more, trying to be in control of what is out of your control whilst sacrificing your mental health and wellbeing of your family. As a result of derailing from my true purpose, life threw in a lot of challenges so that I could learn some valuable life lessons.
And so through, my life experiences of, living in a third world country, deaths of loved ones, husband being paralyzed (but thankfully walking again), people you trust robbing from you, losing most of our businesses (including my art studio) in a fire and husband having open heart surgery (just to name a few hurdles!), I learnt that we can choose to be a victim or we can choose to look for the positive in every situation and be a warrior who fights on. We all have a unique story to share and when we share our story with all our vulnerabilities we are living our true purpose by helping others.
I use my gift of creating to remind you that you are worthy to live your dream life with balance.
What is your creative background?
I have always been passionate about art since a young age but sadly art wasn’t encouraged as a career when I was in school. Thankfully whilst living in PNG, when I took time off work to have my first daughter, an art teacher moved into town and offered weekly art lessons. This was the opening door to my career. With the techniques gained, I found my confidence and quit my accounts job and took on art full time.
How did Nathalie Le Riche come to be?
It all started from my first art exhibition which was a huge success. I decided then and there I was going to do this full time. At the same time, I won some money! This was the opening door to establishing a gift range which I successfully sold throughout Papua New Guinea and the via Air Niugini In-flight duty free. I was then fortunate to get a free trip to America which led me down a path of art licensing contracts in New York. After 15 years of having a successful business. I closed it down to have a chapter dedicated to my husband and teenage daughters as I discovered my #1 value was health and family (a lesson I learnt through my challenges). Now that my children have finished boarding school and are young adults I am returning back to my art full time but this time my business is based in Camp Hill, Qld rather than in Papua New Guinea.
What inspires you and your work?
Originally in my early days of creating I wanted to capture all the beauty that was around me. As I have aged, I am inspired by the emotions and life lessons learnt through the challenges in life. I interpret these lessons using a variety of colours and styles. I do not have one particular style as my lessons are constantly evolving. Life is change and hence my art styles reflect this.
Tell us about your work space
I no longer have my art studio in PNG and have now converted my garage at my Brisbane residence into a studio/office. It is spacious, airy and is a space I enjoy working from. I did a pop up shop a day before the lock down! The goal was to have a shop open by appointment with occasional pop up events. That way I could find time to paint whilst manning a shop.
Any advice for creatives just starting out?
Enjoy the journey and find a balance in all aspects of your life. Happiness is when all aspects of your life are in tune. Dare to dream big! Think of the emotion you will get when you achieve your dream and live that emotion in the now! That way, no matter what happens, you have already won at life. Let go of the how. With faith and when you align with helping others without expecting anything in return, the opportunity doors will uncannily open. Most importantly, remember you are worthy to live your dream life!
What is your favourite product from your range?
That is a hard question because I love them all! But if I had to pick one, I would go with the designer scarves. They are so versatile and stylish and turn a simplistic dress into a statement that you are confident. You stand out in a crowd when you wear one and it is a reminder, you are worthy!
Favourite Book, Band or Podcast right now?
Currently I am thoroughly enjoying Oprah & Deepak Free 21 Day Meditation Course available online and using all my time focusing on a Women Empowering coaching course.
Favourite way to unwind?
Painting, but when not painting, walking connecting with nature and spending quality time with my family.
What does 2020 look like for Nathalie Le Riche?
Due to the unforeseen challenges we are all currently facing, 2020 for me is all about living in the now, one day at the time, focusing on how I can uplift and inspire others whilst being dedicated to inner growth and creativity. It is maintaining a life of balance with an attitude of inner peace, joy and love whilst being true to my values. I believe despite all the hardship, something amazing is going to happen. The world needed to heal. We needed to heal. This is the year where we get a chance to do that. It is a year of hope.
